Miss The Walking Dead? Me too, but, while we wait for the show to return this October 22, there are a handful of movies available on Netflix that will slake our thirst for the AMC series. These aren’t zombie movies, but they do star four of the show’s actors and are worth a look:
The Salvation (2013)
Starring: Mads Mikkelsen, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Eva Green, Jonathan Pryce
If you think Jeffrey Dean Morgan is badass as Negan, wait until you see him in this movie. The Salvation stars the great Mads Mikkelsen as an ex-Danish soldier in the Old West whose dreams for a new life are dashed when his wife and son are brutally murdered. He sets out to kill the gang behind it, and Morgan is the leader of that gang. Delarue is a black-garbed western gangster who murders with impunity and Morgan is great in the role.
Starring: Chandler Riggs, Mark Duplass, Dylan McDermott, Joel Courtney, Shirley Knight, Frances O’Connor
Based on Stephen King’s short story, Gramma, this paranormal horror film stars CORALLLLLLL as a kid with a seriously effed-up grandmother. He and his brother are tasked with watching the bed-ridden old lady, but they soon discover other powerful forces at work.
Starring: Diane Kruger, Norman Reedus, Lena Dunham, Q’orianka Kilcher, Lou Diamond Phillips
After fleeing from an abusive husband, French girl Romy sets out for Las Vegas and a new start. Things don’t go exactly as planned, but she does meet a handsome park ranger, played to eyes-closed-by-the-sun perfection by Norman Reedus. They hook up, of course, but Diego has a tragic secret he doesn’t want his new love to discover.
Starring: Ahn Seo-hyun, Tilda Swinton, Paul Dano, Steven Yeun, Lily Collins
Steven Yeun (RIP Glenn) has a small, but important, role in Okja as an animal rights activist trying to do the right thing. The film is friendship-driven fantasy that follows a young Korean girl on an adventure in America. She on a search to find her “superpig” Okja and won’t let the giant corporation that owns her do what they want to do to her.
Starring: Gael García Bernal, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Alondra Hidalgo, Diego Cataño
Another film starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan as an evil sombitch, Desierto is even more relevant today than it was when it premiered two years ago. Morgan plays a rifle-toting vigilante on the U.S.-Mexico border who finds a bunch of people trying to cross into America. He starts picking them off one by one, but two of them, Moises and Adela, manage to escape him… for a time.
